The poncho – the coolest jacket of the moment
“The blanket trend” is one of the big revelations of the autumn/winter 2014 season, adopted unanimously by all fashionistas. Celebrities turned the poncho into a must have, essential item for the current period, making it the coolest jacket of the moment.
If in the last seasons we became familiar with other versions of the winter jacket (or coat), now we are introduced to a lighter version, more comfortable and highly appreciated: the poncho.
Burberry’s proposals for autumn/winter “revolutionized” the concept of jackets for cold weather. The brand brought to the fore a seemingly unusual item: the blanket, worn over basic outfits, across thin jackets, designed of course to provide all the thermal comfort you need at very low temperatures.
Extremely stylish and practical, the blanket (or poncho) is a key ally of your outfits in the current period, especially when you consider the always surprising, outside weather.
Thus, from thin to very thick, short to maxi, plain or printed, the poncho is proposed in a variety of formulas, being suitable for almost any style, from boho-chic to elegant.
The good news is that its versatility comes from the fact that you can wear it in a variety of ways. If you choose a poncho with a simple design, you can wear it as so, on both shoulders, with a nonchalant attitude on one shoulder or, if you prefer a jacket that follows the line of the body, you can accessorize it with a waist belt or pin it on one side with a broche. If you prefer the latter, you can also choose a structured design, which this season translates into a combination between a poncho and a cape.
As I was saying before, a poncho can be worn almost anytime and anyhow. From smart casual attire, which is composed of a pair of jeans, a shirt and a pair of sneakers, to an elegant approach, which contains a pair of high heeled shoes and an evening dress. The only difference will be in the texture of the poncho.
5 ways to wear the Burberry poncho
Hollywood celebrities have made a real passion for this piece of clothing, so, here are five ways to wear this popular design: the Burberry poncho.
After she paraded it in the Burberry runway show, Cara fell in love with the poncho she wore. This cashmere and Scottish wool piece, with a classic check print was immediately adopted by the “enfant terrible of fashion”, especially since she was able to personalize it with her own initials, CJD (Cara Jocelyn Delevingne). If you want to add even more “attitude” to this outfit try the Star Charmed bracelet and the Burst of Stars ring from Francoise Elizee.
A critic’s favorite for her elegant style and good taste, Olivia Palermo immediately saw the possibility of using the poncho for a maximum visual effect. She wore it over a shirt and checkered printed shorts, and she finished off the outfit with a pair of Stuart Weitzman over the knee boots. The Damballah Charm necklace from Francoise Elizee would look spectacular on the open neckline of the shirt.
Rosie Huntington-Whitely was photographed, on a trip to Sidney, wearing the famous poncho over a pair of skinny jeans, accessorized with suede boho boots and an Aussie style hat. An outfit worth copying, just add The Sophisticated bag from Francoise Elizee and you’re good to go!
Suki Waterhouse adopted a perfect London style, she was caught wearing a poncho with her initials over a wool coat. The Sophisticated bag in chocolate and ivory leather is the one thing that’s missing from this trendy outfit. Throw on the Pineapple ring from Francoise Elizee for some added blitz and you’re ready to strut down Oxford Street for some shopping.
Model Malaika Firth gave this poncho a modern interpretation, wearing it with skinny jeans and a military jacket. Take this outfit to another level with the Erzulie necklace and the Eternity ring. It’s so urban-chic!
